Okay, I'll bite. Rascism. It's obviously still an issue, even though we have come a long way. How do we combat it? Why does it still simmer in the background?

If there is ever a difference between people, there will be intolerance. People are scared of the unknown, and jealous of what they don't have. Racism is a more defined type of intolerance, but it is still just a fear. The way to combat racism is to educate. The way to combat any fear is to educate.

Yeah. I know. That works great in theory. But everyday I deal with students who refuse to be educated. "White people are all rich." "White people are all racist." "White people are all snobs." I am living proof to them that all white people aren't these things; I'm not rich, I'm not racist (or I wouldn't be trying to educate my 98% Hispanic population students) and I'm certainly not a snob.

But these things are trivial. Seriously, how do we educate people who refuse to be educated? We can lead a horse to water but we can't make him drink.

If a horrific racist crime like the beating of that boy can happen in Spring, where we have quality schools and good socio-economic status, how can we expect to eliminate it in poor schools and neighborhoods?

I'm sorry your co-workers are such jerks. But not ALL of us are like that. We can't just give in, can we?

With education goes personal accountability. Too many people these days are looking for someone to blame for their problems or failures. It's easy to bring in race as an excuse.

Caenwyn, this country will never get over racism and differences. We had a company auction yesterday where I won a video Ipod, a big radio, a clock and about 5 other things. We earned "bucks" in the last 3 months according to what we sold. Now, the video ipod was the most expensive item in the auction at $300 so what was said when I won it?

"Wow Jon, you really are a Jew"

that comment doesnt even make sense, at all...I worked harder than the rest, earned more because of my hard work, and therefore got better items.

People make comments and do hurtful things out of pure ignorance, they don't know any better and most people who do racist things actually think they are correct because of how they have been brought up. If there was a way to national educate a mass population all at once then perhaps there would be a chance...problem is, in America nobody would listen anyways.

This country just sucks.
