Mark, Can you just delete this post please?

No, you gotta tell the story first.
Caenwyn (02:46 02/23/2006)
Okay. Here's the short version. I was sitting at home taking care of my son while my husband was at work last night. There was a knock at the door and two officers were there to arrest me for failure to pay a speeding ticket I got in December for going 10 miles over the speed limit in a school zone. I had called to reschedule the court date, but hadn't gone to court yet. The officers told me I had to give them $1,092 in cash right then or they were taking me to jail. And I had to call someone to take my son or they were calling Child Protective Services. I had the money in the bank, but the ATM machine will only allow you to withdraw $300 in one day. They deliberately waited until after the bank closed. So my mother-in-law comes over to take care of my son, they took me outside in front of my house, lights blazing, and patted me down, cuffed me and put me in the squad car in front of all my neighbors who were trying to find out what was going on.
I got booked, fingerprinted, etc., and sat in a cell for an hour while they finished the paper work. My brother-in-law had brought the money 15 mintues after I had actually arrived at the police station. But the cops took 45 more minutes to dick around and let me sit in the cell. My husband was there by then, and they let me go. I still have red marks on my wrists from the cuffs.

Well, I've got an even better story.
I got arrested in Madisonville for reckless driving. Final total came out to be about $480 in fines and court costs. I had 6 months to pay it, in equal increments per month. I was allowed to pay it faster and early as long as I made sure to send at least the required amount each month until the balance was finished.
Here's the fun part: I sent three money orders by mail to the Madison Country Clerk. The first was for about $150. The second one was for about $250 and the last for the rest of the balance of $118. I mailed each one on time. I got a reciept for the first one. About a month ago, I got a call from my bank telling me that they had a voided money order (because it had expired) of mine. So I had to take the stub into the bank and get it put back into my account. The county clerk had written a letter to the bank down there and told them that they didn't know what it was for. So then that bank sent it back to the branch that made it, and they found me.
Regardless, I put the $118 back into my account and decided that I was set since they didn't want that money. About two weeks ago I got a letter from Madison County Clerk explaning that I had defaulted my debt to society by $118 and I have to pay it by March 1st. So I called the Clerk and explained to that that I had a letter from them explaining that they denied my attempt at payment because they were unable to identify what the payment was for. I had written on the money order exactly which docket it went to pay, exactly as I had done with the previous two (accepted) checks. I am currently trying to get ahold of the judge to get him to waive the rest of the fine because the Court is in a position of dishonor in this matter. More on this when more information arrives.

Yeah. That sucks. But you didn't sit in a jail cell. And you weren't arrested in front of all of your neighbors.

Interesting tedium... I'm not even going to go into some of my stories about being "lucky" with cops... let alone the times I have been unlucky...
Trouvist (10:51 03/01/2006)
It's a "road." And I was aware of this law as well.

I've never had a serious run-in with the police. I do have solid proof that I am the luckiest person alive. I was driving through Omaha one night, on I-80. There was a section of the interstate that was under construction, with a speed limit of (I think) 50 mph (the normal speed limit was 60 mph). I kind of knew in the back of my head that this was the case, but I hadn't noticed the speed zone sign yet (despite having lived here for quite a few months). As usual, I was going ~70 mph, despite somewhat heavy traffic. I was also talking on my cell to the friend I was going to visit. I got pulled over, and the cop informed me that he had been following me for six (6) blocks. I said something like, "Really? I had no idea this was a construction zone."
He didn't give me a ticket. I couldn't believe it. I was clearly speeding, and if he had been tailing me for that long, he could have noticed I was using cruise control, and had every intention of going 70 mpg. So I don't get it. Maybe it's because I had Illinois license plates and an Iowa driver's license. In any case, I've felt extremely lucky ever since.

last night, a ticket for $117. Apparently when an officer has pulled someone over to the side of the rhode you need to move over a lane and drop 20 miles per hour. I know one person who is aware of this law, my father.
ridiculous.
And my record? Lets not even go there, it isn't the prettiest of things.

That was me, wasn't logged in here at the new job, whoops...retarded spelling error and now I have met two people that know that law. Other than that I have asked about 50 people who still don't even believe I am telling the truth. I guess I will have to do everyday research before I drive now....:sigh:
